To Hear: The Time Of My Life
May 29, 2008
American Idol’s David Cook just released his new song, The Time Of My Life.
If you ever need a theme song to waltz to, or rock to keeping your arms open wide, living out loud, embracing who you are and what you are here to do….well, this is it.
David Cook
The Time Of My Life
Lyrics
I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn
And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart
So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun
I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life ![]()
Live: Beginning Today
May 29, 2008
Beginning Today
I will no longer worry about yesterday.
It is in the past and the past will never change.
Only I can change by choosing to do so.
Beginning Today
I will no longer worry about tomorrow.
Tomorrow will always be there,
waiting for me to make the most of it.
But I cannot make the most of tomorrow
without first making the most of today.
Beginning Today
I will look in the mirror and I will see a person
worthy of my respect and admiration.
This capable person looking back at me is someone
I enjoy spending time with and someone I would like
to get to know better.
Beginning Today
I will cherish each moment of my life.
I value the gift bestowed upon me in this world
and I will unselfishly share this gift with others.
Beginning Today
I will take a moment to step off the beaten path
and to revel in the mysteries I encounter.
I will face challenges with courage and determination.
I will overcome what barriers there may be which hinder
my quest for growth and self-improvement.
Beginning Today
I will take life one day at a time, one step at a time.
Discouragement will not be allowed to taint
my positive self-image, my desire to succeed
or my capacity to love.
Beginning Today
I walk with renewed faith in human kindness.
Regardless of what has gone before.
I believe there is hope for a brighter
and better future.
Beginning Today
I will open my mind and my heart.
I will welcome new experiences.
I will meet new people.
I will not expect perfection from myself nor anyone else:
perfection does not exist in an imperfect world.
But I will applaud the attempt to overcome human foibles.
Beginning Today
I am responsible for my own happiness
and I will do things that make me happy…
admire the beautiful wonders of nature,
listen to my favorite music, pet a kitten or a puppy,
soak in a bubble bath…
Pleasure can be found in the most simple of gestures.
Beginning Today
I will learn something new;
I will try something different;
I will savor all the various flavors life has to offer.
I will change what I can and the rest I will let go.
I will strive to become the best me I can possibly be.
Beginning Today
And Every Day
Yes! Today and Every Day.

To Touch/Feel: Earth in your Hands
May 19, 2008
It’s humbling, really. We’ve become such a clean society that we’ve forgotten what it feels like to get your hands dirty, to dig your fingers in moist soil to plant something fresh, pull up a weed, or just scoop up some dirt to make a mud pie.
Dig into the earth soon. Let it comfort you knowing you are connected to something far more expansive than you can see, imagine, or know. Dig up a part of your world that draws a continuous line to other countries, cultures, and lives. Whether covered by water, forest, foliage or pavement, we all are grounded on top of something that continuously shifts, changes, allows us to grow and ultimately become a part of someday.
Feel some earth. From this humble gesture, you can feel mighty.
To Hear: I Wanna Feel Somethin’
May 19, 2008
Have you ever felt numbed out of life? It’s too much sometimes with talk of the never-ending presidential race, the war, recession, meeting life’s demands… well, it makes you just want to scream or sigh.
Country singer Trace Adkins, Donald Trumps latest Celebrity Apprentice finalist, sings this passionate song to empathize with you when you feel you have to hear your heart beat once more.
Maybe you can relate.
“I Wanna Feel Something”
Trace Adkins (c) 2006
If you’re tellin me I’m not on fire
You’re just preachin to the choir
I’ve gotten dull as old barbed wire from livin
Last night I watched the evening news
It was the same ol nothin new
It should have cut me right in two
But it didn’t
I dont know why it didn’t
But I wanna feel somethin
Somethin thats a real somethin
That moves me, that proves to me I’m still alive
I wanna heart that beats and bleeds
A heart thats bustin at the seams
I wanna care, I wanna cry, I wanna scream
I just wanna feel somethin
If you’re tellin me thats just how it is
I dont buy it cause once I was kissed
By a red-headed girl with cherry lips
On her porch when I was sixteen
And I felt it somewhere in my soul and time stood still and I couldn’t let go
I cant tell you cause I dont know how I got so cold
When did I get so cold
[Chorus:]
I just wanna feel somethin
Somethin that’s a real somethin
That moves me, that proves to me I’m still alive
Run my fingers through your fingers, across your face and through your hair
And close my eyes and breathe you in like air
I just wanna feel somethin
I hate that I’m jaded and I make you cry
But still you stick around me, only God knows why
Damn it all to hell, I’m done
Cause I don’t like what I’ve become
So come here, baby
Come here, baby
[Repeat Chorus]
Come here, baby

Love: Simply Remind Them
May 19, 2008
Everyone goes through bouts of feeling less than, questioning maybe something they did, or perhaps who they are. In uncertain times, it’s easy to have self-doubts of where you are going, or worse yet, realize where you are.
When you love someone and you see them hurting, it’s tough to stand by and watch. You want to fix it. You want to come to their aid, by their side, and fix the situation or sometimes, try even to fix them.
I want to challenge you to try something.
Simply remind them.
Remind them of who you know they are on the inside. Remind them of the gifts, qualities and strengths you have always admired in them. Remind them of a situation you’ve seen them go through before and solved on their own. Remind them of the knowledge they possess inside and the abilities they have to overcome anything – a situation, a doubt, a problem, or anything they might think of themselves.
Remind them you are on their side.
Remind them you love them.
Remind them that you believe in them.
The most compassionate love is when you can remind those you love of the person you know them to be. There is no need to tell untruths or pump someone up with exclamations of power or grandiosity. That may feel right in the moment for you but when you are the one hurting, all of that seems like a band-aid of sorts that may not feel quite like it fits right over the wound.
It is hard not to go into fix-it mode. But with kindness, compassion, and generosity of spirit you can truly mend a broken heart with your love. Not with hope or hype… but with truth, honesty and certainty.
And that is the truest form of love we could ever know.
Remind them.
“To love a person is to learn the song in their heart and to sing it to them when they have forgotten.”
-Thomas Chandler
Laugh: Never Become Too Big To Laugh
May 19, 2008
“Never will I allow myself to become so important, so wise, so dignified, so powerful, that I forget how to laugh at myself and my world. And so long as I can laugh never will I be poor.”
- Og Mandino
Live: Coffee Anyone?
May 19, 2008
This story is sent to me so often by many of my friends I simply had to enter it here to share it with you in case you haven’t seen it yet. A carrot, an egg, and a cup of coffee…You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again.
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up, She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, ‘Tell me what you see.’
‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.
Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, mother?’
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
‘Which are you?’ she asked her daughter. ‘When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
Ask Yourself:
Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?
Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the
heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?
Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity?
Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
May we all be coffee.
To Hear: “Breathe”
May 4, 2008
If you ever need a song that begs you to be still and breathe, this surely must be one. It’s a soft, thoughtful soundtrack to perhaps browsing through photos from long ago, remembering all of life’s precious moments, and letting go…
Enjoy.

My Wish For You: Breathless Moments
May 4, 2008
I wish many breathless moments for you today. No, not always the romantic butterfly-in-the-stomach-can’t-breathe moments (of course I wish those for you as well) but those tiny moments in your day where you stop, breathe it all in, and wonder in amazement how beautiful the small things in life can be.
I wish for you a time where you can be still while the world rushes around you. I wish for you to not want to escape from it, but to honor it’s craziness while it’s here. What a ride.
I wish for you a silent moment, when you can look into the flame of a candle and disappear in thought at how life can throw you some curve balls, and you can come out on the other side triumphant.
I wish for you a moment when you realize just how special you really are. A time, a moment, when you know you really matter…to many.
May you always have a moment that simply takes your breath away whether by your own hand, a child, friend, or a phone call. Or maybe a breathless moment by reading just the right passage, quote, or book that falls into your lap at the right time. May you have that AHA moment when you want it the most.
Here’s to breathless moments. Have a billion of them. And enjoy your life.
From my heart to yours,
Kelley Taylor
