To Hear: Did You
June 10, 2008
Did You
by Hoobastank
would you say everything you could
do the things that you thought you would
did it ever occur to you that this could be your final day
did you go where you wanted to go
learn about what you wanted to know
did you ever really give something back instead of always taking it
did you find what you’re looking for
did you get your foot in the door
can you look at yourself and feel proud of all the things you’ve done
did you inspire the ones that you knew
make a difference to those who knew you
did you finally figure out what it is that makes us who we are today
don’t waste another day
you never know when you’ll get one
don’t waste another day
to do anything you haven’t done
did you always give it your best
is there anything you regret
if you could have another shot at it all would you do it just the same
was it all that you thought it could be
are you the person you thought you would be
or did it feel like you were spinning your wheels instead of moving forward everyday
don’t waste another day
you never know when you’ll get one
don’t waste another day
to do anything you haven’t done
don’t waste another day
you never know when you’ll get one
don’t waste another day
to do anything you haven’t done
did you
da da da did you
did you
da da da did you
don’t waste another day
you never know when you’ll get one
don’t waste another day
to do anything you haven’t done
don’t waste another day
you never know when you’ll get one
don’t waste another day
to do anything you haven’t done
did you
da da da did you
did you
da da da did you
did you
da da da did you
did you
da da da did you
To Hear: Life Is A Highway
June 3, 2008
Am I on a country music kick or what?! But this, well this is one of my favorite get up and get going songs.
Life Is A Highway
Rascal Flatts
Life’s like a road that you travel on
When there’s one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There’s a world outside ev’ry darkened door
Where blues won’t haunt you anymore
Where brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won’t hesitate
To break down the garden gate
There’s not much time left today
[Chorus:]
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
Through all these cities and all these towns
It’s in my blood and it’s all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver’s lights
Knock me down get back up again
You’re in my blood
I’m not a lonely man
There’s no load I can’t hold
Road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Just tell ‘em we’re survivors
[Chorus]
Gimme gimme gimme gimme yeah
[Chorus]
There was a distance between you and I (between you and I)
A misunderstanding once
But now we look it in the eye
Ooooo…Yeah!
There ain’t no load that I can’t hold
Road so rough this I know
I’ll be there when the light comes in
Just tell ‘em we’re survivors
[Chorus: (x3)]
Life is a highway
I wanna ride it all night long
If you’re going my way
I wanna drive it all night long
To Hear: The Time Of My Life
May 29, 2008
American Idol’s David Cook just released his new song, The Time Of My Life.
If you ever need a theme song to waltz to, or rock to keeping your arms open wide, living out loud, embracing who you are and what you are here to do….well, this is it.
David Cook
The Time Of My Life
Lyrics
I’ve been waiting for my dreams
To turn into something
I could believe in
And looking for that
Magic rainbow
On the horizon
I couldn’t see it
Until I let go
Gave into love and watched all the bitterness burn
Now I’m coming alive
Body and soul
And feelin’ my world start to turn
And I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time
To be more than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
Holding onto things that vanished
Into the air
Left me in pieces
But now I’m rising from the ashes
Finding my wings
And all that I needed
Was there all along
Within my reach
As close as the beat of my heart
So I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
And I’m out on the edge of forever
Ready to run
I’m keeping my feet on the ground
My arms open wide
My face to the sun
I’ll taste every moment
And live it out loud
I know this is the time,
This is the time to be
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
I know this is the time
This is the time of my life
Time of my life
More than a name
Or a face in the crowd
This is the time
This is the time of my life.
This is the time of my life ![]()
To Hear: I Wanna Feel Somethin’
May 19, 2008
Have you ever felt numbed out of life? It’s too much sometimes with talk of the never-ending presidential race, the war, recession, meeting life’s demands… well, it makes you just want to scream or sigh.
Country singer Trace Adkins, Donald Trumps latest Celebrity Apprentice finalist, sings this passionate song to empathize with you when you feel you have to hear your heart beat once more.
Maybe you can relate.
“I Wanna Feel Something”
Trace Adkins (c) 2006
If you’re tellin me I’m not on fire
You’re just preachin to the choir
I’ve gotten dull as old barbed wire from livin
Last night I watched the evening news
It was the same ol nothin new
It should have cut me right in two
But it didn’t
I dont know why it didn’t
But I wanna feel somethin
Somethin thats a real somethin
That moves me, that proves to me I’m still alive
I wanna heart that beats and bleeds
A heart thats bustin at the seams
I wanna care, I wanna cry, I wanna scream
I just wanna feel somethin
If you’re tellin me thats just how it is
I dont buy it cause once I was kissed
By a red-headed girl with cherry lips
On her porch when I was sixteen
And I felt it somewhere in my soul and time stood still and I couldn’t let go
I cant tell you cause I dont know how I got so cold
When did I get so cold
[Chorus:]
I just wanna feel somethin
Somethin that’s a real somethin
That moves me, that proves to me I’m still alive
Run my fingers through your fingers, across your face and through your hair
And close my eyes and breathe you in like air
I just wanna feel somethin
I hate that I’m jaded and I make you cry
But still you stick around me, only God knows why
Damn it all to hell, I’m done
Cause I don’t like what I’ve become
So come here, baby
Come here, baby
[Repeat Chorus]
Come here, baby
To Hear: “Breathe”
May 4, 2008
If you ever need a song that begs you to be still and breathe, this surely must be one. It’s a soft, thoughtful soundtrack to perhaps browsing through photos from long ago, remembering all of life’s precious moments, and letting go…
Enjoy.

Hear: Fight Outta You
April 28, 2008
My dear friend Ann sent me this song by Ben Harper called “Fight Outta You”. I hope if you are ever discouraged or feeling downtrodden by life, you listen to this song or read the lyrics. Never let anyone take the fight out of you.
They’ll look you in the eyes and stone you, then turn and disown you,
don’t you let them take the fight outta you
They’ll walk all over your name ’til they find someone else to blame,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
Secrets hide their lies inside hidden alibis,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
They put the world on a hook, it’s worse every time I look
Don’t let them take the fight outta you
I would rather take a punch than not give you a shot
I’d rather find out who you are than who you’re not
Should have known better than to mistake business for love
Should have known better than to mistake a fist for a glove
It will be in your honor ’til you’re not needed any longer,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
Don’t believe the headlines, check it for yourself sometimes,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
The lies you live become you, the love you lose it numbs you,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
They say that you’ve arrived but that’s just a high-class bribe,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
There’s always someone younger, someone with more hunger,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
They’ll say you’re the one and only, then straight up leave you lonely,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
Like a transplant-patient waiting for a donor,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
Like a half empty balloon after a party in the corner,
don’t let them take the fight outta you
To Hear: Taking Chances
April 21, 2008
Whad’ya say to taking chances?
Taking Chances - Celine Dion
Don’t know much about your life.
Don’t know much about your world, but
Don’t want to be alone tonight,
On this planet they call earth.
You don’t know about my past, and
I don’t have a future figured out.
And maybe this is going too fast.
And maybe it’s not meant to last,
But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there’s solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?
I just want to start again,
And maybe you could show me how to try,
And maybe you could take me in,
Somewhere underneath your skin?
What do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there’s solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?
And I had my heart beaten down,
But I always come back for more, yeah.
There’s nothing like love to pull you up,
When you’re laying down on the floor there.
So talk to me, talk to me,
Like lovers do.
Yeah walk with me, walk with me,
Like lovers do,
Like lovers do.
What do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there’s solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?
Don’t know much about your life
And I don’t know much about your world.
To Hear: Say, John Mayer
April 14, 2008
I’m a very musically inclined kinda girl. :) Sometimes, I just have to share the music of my heart with you. I hope you don’t mind.
Every once in a while, I’ll find a song that speaks to me, or says what I want to say. I’ll share it here.
In November, when previews for the movie The Bucket List were airing widely, I heard this gentle song that was so powerful it was even shared at a business workshop I attended in February.
Say
Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems,
Better put ‘em in quotations
Say what you need to say [x8]
Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head
Living out the same old moment
Knowing you’d be better off instead,
If you could only …
Say what you need to say [x8]
Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You’d better know that in the end
Its better to say too much
Then never say what you need to say again
Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open
Say what you need to say [x24]
Won’t Let You Down
January 21, 2008
I know this song is meant for a friend, from a friend. But, when you really beating yourself up over something you’ve done, not done, or ignored doing, try listening to this song as if you are dedicating it to yourself.
Because really, the best friend you can ever have that will never leave is…yourself.
Be there.
Typing
January 16, 2008
While you’re there feeling up your keys on your keyboard, how ‘bout typing a few lines to me?
Comment on an article or vlog, send me a note, and while you’re typing, close your eyes and listen to your keys type away.
Don’t YOU sound industrious!
I’ve always loved hearing typing, computer keys clacking or clicking, and I hope you’ll take time to appreciate what everyone else around you has to listen to while you’re doing your thing!
And if you just love the sound and want to include a recording of typing sounds to your blog, video, or other creative multimedia project, click here for a free download to add to your media files.
