To Be: Breathless
May 4, 2008
breath·less Not breathing; holding the breath, on account of fear, expectation, or intense interest; attended with a holding of the breath; as, breathless attention. Marked by the suspension of regular breathing, as from tension or excitement:
“All Heaven and Earth are still, though not in sleep, But breathless, as we grow when feeling most”. – Lord Byron.
As I came into this world breathless, I want to go out in the same way.
Heaven help me if I can ever just pass through this life without noticing how wonderful it is. I want to look at the world in amazement.
I never want to lose my child-like awe at how small we are in the world. I want to honor that but know that we also have an effect on this world as well.
I want to welcome the world into my arms, no matter how it comes to me, and love it for making me who I am, just as I am. I want to hold my breath with anticipated excitement wondering just what will come next.
In a word, I want to become, breathless.
May you, if you want, become breathless, too.

To Be: Forgiving of my own Failures
January 21, 2008
It’s hard to overlook your own mistakes. The things we set out to do and fall short of, the plans we make, the people we let down.
Forgiving others is hard; forgiving yourself is even harder.
Today, try to be a friend to yourself. What would you say to a friend who had really messed up. Really.
Would you kick them while they’re down? Would you call them names? Would you remind them constantly of what they did and how bad they messed up?
Of course you wouldn’t. So don’t do that to yourself.
Find forgiveness somewhere in your heart for all of the things you just plain ol forgot, messed up, or did way in the past. Often, when you practice forgiveness of yourself, you’ll be able to overcome whatever it is that’s holding you back from being the person you were meant to become.

To Be
January 1, 2008
This section is simply a list of things I’d love to be.
Inspired by the 1945 movie The Bells of St. Mary’s, starring Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman, the lovable though not-so-smart character, Patsy said something I hope we all embrace.
Patricia ‘Patsy’ Gallagher: [stands up in class to present a report]
The Six Senses.
Sister Mary Benedict: [baffled and confused]
The subject I gave you was the five senses.
Patricia ‘Patsy’ Gallagher:
Well, for my topic, I chose six senses.
Sister Mary Benedict:
Go on, Patricia.
Patricia ‘Patsy’ Gallagher:
The Six Senses: To see, to hear, to taste, to smell, to feel… to be.
What is life without the six senses? And no….it’s not to “see dead people.” It’s about becoming more.
