To See: The Sweetest Song in the World

June 18, 2008

I was watching America’s Got Talent last night and this little girl, Kaitlyn Ashley Maher - only four years old, captured my heart. If you haven’t heard her, you simply must to hear the sweetest sound in the world.

To See: Amazement and Wonder

May 19, 2008

I found this photo and fell in love.  Look at the world with hope, amazement, and wonder as in the eyes of a child.  Beautiful.

So, I love Rocky. With wisdom like this, though, who can blame me? :)

Enjoy this clip.

To See: Jackson Pollock

April 21, 2008

Jackson Pollack - number 8Many will argue that their child, or an elephant, could do what Jackson Pollock did to canvas. Maybe so, but I say there was probably no one better at surrendering to an organic creative process.

He let the paint be what it is and do what it does. He not only accepted how paint splatters and globs, runs and pours, he adored the way it moved and danced across the canvas. He played with it. He called it “action painting” and dribbled and drizzled it saying, “The painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through.”

Usually artists, like some of us in our everyday lives, try to control the outcome. We pause, we plan, we are careful, we are cautious – making sure that we get things juuuuust right. The end result of being so careful causes worry, dread, self-doubt, fear, loathing, procrastination, and stress.

It really seems so counter-intuitive. I mean, can we really control what people are? We can definitely have an effect, but in the end sometimes accepting what situations, circumstances, people, things are is really the beauty of all of it.

I love how Pollock really worked with what he had in a natural way. I learn from him. I admire him. I’m too much of a perfectionist. I need things to be just so. I am learning to breathe and let go: let things do what they need to do, let them dance, evolve naturally, and love them dearly for it. In the end, I will have my own masterpiece called life.

To Do: Visit A Museum

April 14, 2008

MOMA Color Chart ExhibitionOne of the best things you can do to stretch your mind, open your eyes and soul is by visiting a museum.  But, let’s say you’re short on time, in a rural area, or just can’t bear the thought of standing by someone saying, “In this piece, I think the artist was saying…”

Blech.

But NEVER let any of the above deprive you of enjoying many works or exhibitions.  Many major museums now offer virtual exhibits*, or samples of them, to give you a taste of what is out there waiting for you to devour with your senses.

For example, visit The Museum of Modern Art (affectionately known or also referred to as MOMA) in New York City to see the extraordinary Color Chart exhibit depicting how color was reinvented from 1950 to today.

From the introduction, “Forty-four artists take the position that art and life mingle rather than remain separate, and where beauty is found in the everyday rather than in the ideal.”

But we already knew that didn’t we? :)

Enjoy the exhibit.

All my love,
Kelley Taylor

Watch the Super Bowl Ads

February 4, 2008

The day after… Dorito breath, cheese dip bowls to clean, and a faint recollection of the super bowl ad you loved.

If you took a bathroom break, or just want to reminisce over your favorite, you can watch the entire series of commercials, broken down by quarter, by visiting MySpace.

Way cool, eh?

And… I had to include my favorite one here.

Coming Up: February

January 21, 2008

Valentine’s Day is coming up. So in celebration of it, I’ll be focusing the site on love baby. The good, the bad, and everything in between. The romantic, the parental, the spiritual, and even giving a little love back to yourself.

Of course, I’ll cover decorating for Valentine’s Day and give you plenty of sites to visit, but, for the most part, I want you to find at least 29 days of how you can make each and every day a little bit of Valentine’s Day.

So, stay tuned. Tell your friends, and as always, much love to you.
